Firefox 15: News for developers and interface for tablets (Part 1)

Mozilla Firefox 15 brings major update for web developers and he also promises to correct the long-going problem with over usage of operational memory. The process of updating is becoming simpler and next step to support WebRTC is made. Android version also brings new interface for tablets.

Firefox 15 bring us more interesting news. Many of them relates to web developers, but generally the most interesting news is the serious of improvements, which should lead to optimalization of the operational memory. The high memory demand during the long runs of browser is the number one problem in Mozilla Firefox.

Firefox 15 has a whip to punish naughty add-ons

Some can object that the operation memory is in computer to be used, of course. But not any program can work with the memory to unreasonably reduce the whole system performance. As is well know, while having the lack of memory, the OS helps itself by putting some data on much slower hard-drive, which leads to overall “laziness” of the system.

After few hours of browsing, Firefox has no problem to take 1 GB of memory.

Many times Mozilla promised and made steps which leads to optimization of the memory usage, but at the same time it blames the add-ons to be the main cause of the high memory usage. This is why the new Firefox 15 brings the series of improvements, which should reduce the negative impact on poorly written add-ons with insufficient debugging.

Only time will show if those improvements will make some significant change. We will see that after meeting the feedback from a wider user base. The mentioned modifications are not the only novelty in Firefox 15, regards of memory usage. New diagnostic page about:memory can reveal, how much memory does the various components of the browser consumes.

The graphic presentation of the diagnostic windows is unfortunately completely incomprehensible. You have only little chance to find out which website is causing the excessive exploitation of the computer system resources, or which add-on is taking too much memory for itself. Maybe because of this interface, the window isn’t accessible directly from the browser menu.

Diagnostics window about:memory is completely incomprehensible for the users and therefore useless. It can help a bit to web and add-on developers.

The agility of the browser itself doesn’t relate to just memory consumption. Larger memory consumption of on powerful computer may not be the real cause of the unsatisfactory browser performance. There are more options how to improve this. Try Fasterfox Lite add-on which automatically makes series of improvements in the browser settings in order to max the performance.
